Reasons Your Furnace Is Not Heating Your House

There are a number of reasons why your oven may not be heating properly, and it all depends on your space. Call Carrano Air so a technician can properly diagnose your furnace problems so you can stay warm when it’s cold.

Improper Thermostat Setting

Before you do anything, check that the thermostat is set to the desired room temperature.

Your Furnace is Too Small for Your Home

Unless you are the original owner of your property, you probably only have a vague idea of your home’s history. Chances are that the previous owners either didn’t install things properly or simply chose the cheapest option instead of the best. This is a common problem with ovens

To know how much energy it takes to heat your home, you need to calculate your system’s BTUs. The BTU (British Thermal Unit) measures the amount of heat produced by your oven. A general rule of thumb is 30,000 BTU per 1,000 square feet (or 30 BTU per square foot). The larger your house is, the more energy is required to heat it. You may also want to consider your climate when choosing a furnace. If you live in a colder climate, choosing a boiler with a higher BTU per square foot would be a good choice.

Your Furnace Is More Than 15 Years Old

The typical lifespan of a furnace is about 15 years. Maintaining your furnace regularly with seasonal maintenance appointments and keeping your air ducts clean will help your furnace last longer. As your furnace ages, it becomes less efficient and loses its ability to distribute hot air evenly throughout your home.

The older your furnace is, the more likely it is to need repairs, such as a cracked heat exchanger or a defective fan motor.

Your Air Ducts Are Dirty

Your air ducts fill with dust, hair, and skin from people and pets in your home. Over time, this accumulation of dust makes it more difficult for warm air to reach all rooms in the house. Replacing your air filter regularly should help as a dirty filter can restrict airflow. However, if you find dirt, dust, or mold on or around your home’s vents, it’s a sign that your air ducts need cleaning.

Your air ducts only need to be cleaned every three to five years. When you’re finished, the air will circulate better throughout the house and the rooms will hopefully be heated more evenly.

Poor Insulation

Poor insulation is another common problem in older homes with inadequate heating systems. Over time, insulation may become less effective. Depending on the type of insulation in your home, it can absorb moisture. To keep heat inside, it’s important that the insulation around your air ducts stays dry.

Newer foam insulation can eliminate cracks and small holes that allow heat to escape. The better insulated your home is, the more efficiently your boiler should work.
